Researching into How to Search
Hey Guys!Thursday the 24th of February
We went to the SIT Library to do a quick research into our theme. Theme I was put into Music & Light Show.
Lights and Sound Research Found:
Information found in the book, "Festival and Special Event Management" written by Johnny Allen, William O'Toole, Ian McDonnell and Robert Harris.

But before everything happens, into design and function, is for to pick the venue. After picking a venue, it is then when you decide the lights and sound placing.
Lights at a venue has two functions. One is artistically, which is integral to the design and second, Pragmatically, which allow light to everyone to see what is happening.
What to consider into lighting are;
- Does it fit into and enhance the overall theme?
- Can the ambient lighting fit into the performance lighting?
- Is there a backup?
- What are power requirements?
- Will it interfere with other electrics?
- Does it come with a light operator?
- What light effects are needed? Does the light system come with it?
- Is there any platforms or other objects to enhance or damper the lights and light effects.
- How can the lights assist in the safety and security of the events?
When it comes to the light planning and mapping of the venue, Reid (1995) points out, event manager has to keep in mind when making of a lighting plan are:
- Placements of the lights
- The type of light, including floods and follow spots
- Where the light should be pointed
- What colours to use.
Sound/Music
The prime reason of the sound placement and intensity is so everyone in the audience can hear clearly to the music, speeches and audio effects.
Things to keep in mind are;
- Communication between the sound engineer and the stage manager (either with intercoms or talk-back)
- Monitor the sound
- Create a sound recording event, ie able to broadcast the sound to ether other venues or through other media. Like Tv, radios and internet.
By this means the equipment required
- Able to amplify sound, included spoken or music.
- Size and make-up of the audience. This meaning, an older audience would prefer music to be quieter than the speech, which is different the a younger audience.
- Acoustic properties of the venue.
- Final, the theme of the event. By that means, the sound system may look out of place if the event is in a dark theme room, if the system is bright sliver.
The choice of the size, type and placements of the speakers can make all the difference to the audience experience to the sound.
Speakers that are located at common music concerts are located next to the stage. These speakers are usually loud. Compared to the speakers distributed around the venue, could be smaller, and help to distributed speech.
